History & Description
The first visiting priest, to Clark County between 1844-1857, was Rev. Damien Junker of Emmanuel Church in Dayton which was designated as a "Mother Parish." St. Raphael in Springfield was built in 1849 and served the German and Irish populations in Clark County. Rev. James Kearney was the first pastor. By 1883 the Catholic population had grown too large for the initial structures and the present church and school were built.
