2021 Lenten Pilgrimage Week 6
Week 6, on to Clermont County:
History & Description
The parish of St. Philomena was established in 1837 and was sometimes referred to as the Little Church in the Valley. The wooden church was built from $50 worth of logs. The first priests were from France, and the first pastor was Rev. Claude Gacon. The initial Little Church in the Valley burned down in 1868. In 2015, as part of the celebration of their 175th anniversary, there was an archeology dig to locate the original log church. The four parishes of the region participated in the search and the remains of the original structure were located.
