History & Description

The parish was established as a missionary stop in 1818 and the first Mass said by Rev. Benedict J. Flaget of Bardstown, KY. By 1850 the Irish were the principle ethnic group and were laborers for the railroads and canals. The church building was started in 1853 and completed in 1856. Rev. Augustus A. Grogan was the first pastor.
